Cooking Range Should Hardwood Be Installed Under Cooking Range (gas) ?

Should hardwood be installed under cooking range (gas) ? - cooking range

I'm Getting timber installed in the kitchen. Contractor told me, are not installed on a gas stove for cooking, since it does not! Is there a reason why they should get or not cokking timber in the kitchen?
